Inside Improvisation Series: Vol 2: Pentatonic Scales
By Jerry Bergonzi

You know them, you love them...they are pentatonic scales. The first tool one of my early teachers taught me for soloing was the minor pentatonic scales. This book covers pentatonic scale applications in extreme detail. There are many different kinds of pentatonic scales (as taught by Jerry) such as the major b2, the minor 6, the minor 7(b5), polypentatonic scales etc. Each pentatonic scale is written out and has accompanying practice exercises for the student. There is also a list of chords that each pentatonic scale works over. At the end of the Cd, Jerry really cuts loose and demonstrates the sound you can get from each type of pentatonic scale. I would recommend this book to anyone who is involved with improvisation at any level...in any style...not just jazz.
