By Brett Wilmott
Despite the title, this is another book which any comping instrument, arranger, composer can benefit from. It is a continuation of harmonic study from Brett's previous book (Complete Book of Harmony, Theory and Voicing". I would like to quote something Brett mentions in the introduction of the book.
"This degree of information can be both inspiring and overwhelming and brings to mind a question I am frequently asked; "How do I apply this information to my immediate playing?". My first reaction is one of identity with the question and lack of any single or easy answer. I then try to communicate the importance of patience and the gradual but substantial returns one receives from a lifetime of commitment to harmonic study....not an extremely satisfying answer." -Brett Wilmott
This is a book that I think works best if you take small amounts at a time....over an extended period of time. Topics include more detail on enharmonic chord substitutions, voice leading, voice sizes and string combinations, voicings in fourths (quartal harmony), upper structure triads, pentatonic voicings, half step voicings. What's also great about this book is that Brett gives some fingering possibilities for the different chord substitutions and there is an accompanying Cd with examples played by Brett.
