Biography

A Love Supreme - John Coltrane

To some musicians, Coltrane represents the highest caliber of musicianship one can aspire to become. It is no secret that many of the greatest jazz players fought constant battles with substance abuse...and John Coltrane was no exception. Some of the musicians eventually kicked their habits and lived to tell about it, while others never lived past the age of 30. In the liner notes of this album, here is what John Coltrane himself says:

"As time and events moved on, a period of irresolution did prevail. I entered into a phase which was contradictory to the pledge and away from the esteemed path; but thankfully now and again through the unerring and merciful hand of God, I do perceive and have been duly re-informed of His omnipotence, and of our need for, and dependence on Him.

This album is a humble offering to Him. An attempt to say "Thank You God" through our work, even as we do in our hearts and with our tongues. May He help and strengthen all men in every good endeavour."- John Coltrane

This album is a recognized masterpiece and has also influenced many musicians like John McLaughlin and rock musicians like Carlos Santana. There are only four songs on this record and each one demonstrates the highest level of musical awareness, technical facility, and emotional expression. It is also one of the biggest selling jazz albums ever.
