It is no secret that many of the greatest jazz players fought constant battles with substance abuse...and John Coltrane was no exception. This album is a recognized masterpiece and has also influenced many musicians like John McLaughlin and rock musicians like Carlos Santana. There are only four songs on this record and each one demonstrates the highest level of musical awareness, technical facility, and emotional expression. It is also one of the biggest selling jazz albums ever.
